Thomas represents our clients in VAT matters when dealing with the German tax authorities and before the tax courts, the German Federal Fiscal Court and the Court of Justice of the European Union. Thomas’ areas of expertise include representing and assisting clients in extrajudicial appeal proceedings and in criminal tax law matters. The goal in each case, is the amicable settlement of disputes or the pursuit of critical discussions with the tax authorities. Another main aspect of his work is providing advice on VAT issues to non-profit organizations and public corporations, ranging from small municipalities to large local authorities, including the federal and state governments. The implementation of tax compliance systems in companies and major entities is also one of Thomas’ areas of expertise. In addition, he supports numerous associations in the context of legislative initiatives and the provision of statements to the highest financial regulatory authorities.
Thomas has previously worked as a tax officer for various taxation authorities. His past positions include tax officer at the higher regional tax office in Munich for income tax and VAT, as well as tax policy assistant to the head of the German parliament in Berlin.
In addition to his partnership at KMLZ, Thomas is a member of the Fachinstitut für Steuerberater e.V. in Düsseldorf (an expert institute of certified tax consultants), as well as the scientific committee of the Münchener Steuerfachtagung e. V. He also lectures at the Federal Academy of Finance of the Federal Ministry of Finance in Brühl.
